PGHS Grading Policy  
 

The following grading system is used by the Pottsgrove High School...

93-100

=

 (A) Excellent
85-92 =  (B) Above Average
77-84 =  (C) Average
70-76 =  (D) Below Average
Below 70 =  (F) Failure

 

Grades of individual assignments determine each marking period's (quarter) grade. In addition, Mid-term and Final exams are included to calculate a student's Final grade for the course as follows...

 

  Quarter 1 20%
+ Quarter 2 20%
+ Mid-Term Exam 10%
+ Quarter 3 20%
+ Quarter 4 20%
+ Final Exam 10%
= FINAL GRADE 100%
 
Graduation Requirements:
  • 4 credits in English and social studies
  • 3 credits in math and science
  • 2 credits in arts & humanities
  • 1 credit in health and physical education
  • .05 credit in computer technology
  • 5.5 credits in other approved courses including approved vocational education courses
  • Successful completion of an approved graduation project
Nomination for Homecoming Court:

Cumulative weighted GPA of  >=85 (uses final Y1 grade from previous year) and no discipline referrals

Honor Roll:
  • Distinguished Honor Roll - A student must maintain a 93% or higher in all subject areas and citizenship grades must be an "S" or "O" in all subject areas.
  • Honor Roll - A student must attain 85% or higher in all subject areas and citizenship grades must be an "S" or "O" in all subject areas.
National Honor Society Minimum Requirements for Eligibility:
  • Candidates must have a GPA of 93% or higher at the time of application
  • Candidates must have an average of 90% or higher (weighted average) in all major subjects and required minors meeting at least three times per cycle, each quarter of the semester preceding induction.
  • All scholastic scores of the candidate must not be below 85% in any subject for one full year prior to induction.
  • All citizenship grades of the candidate must be an "S" or "O" during the current and prior year of application.
  • Freshmen are not eligible.
 


 

Since attitude is a significant factor in a child’s success, each subject is accompanied by a citizenship mark based on a pupil’s capacity for growth.  This mark includes an evaluation of characteristics that are essential to personal and social development:

Effort   Be attentive, do what is required, and take advantage of the educational opportunities present.
Dependability   Be recognized in the classroom as a responsible person.

            

Each student will receive a grade on their progress in meeting the above criteria.
